From local roots to global innovation
Chesapeake Specialty Products, Inc. (CSP) was founded in 1989 with a mission to bring innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility to the foundry and surface preparation industries. That same year, CSP purchased its first building in Sparrows Point, Maryland, establishing a permanent home in a community long known for its industrial heritage.
CSP purchased a Bethlehem Steel building located down the road from the main plant campus, placing the company in the heart of an area that once symbolized American industrial strength. For over a century, Bethlehem Steel dominated Sparrows Point as one of the world’s largest steelmakers. By setting roots in this location, CSP carried forward that legacy of manufacturing excellence—while applying a modern focus on sustainable products, innovation, and cleaner technologies.
Since its founding, CSP has grown into a trusted supplier of specialized products used worldwide:
SphereOX® & SphereOX® No-Coat: Foundry sand additives that reduce emissions, improve casting quality, and often eliminate the need for costly coatings.
Metgrit® Metallic Abrasives: Durable, recyclable abrasives that can be reused multiple times, saving money while meeting environmental standards.
FineOX Iron Oxide & HDM Products: High-performance materials for casting, ballast, and industrial applications.
Slag Removers & Custom Solutions: Easy-to-use products that improve efficiency and consistency in foundry operations.
Each product reflects CSP’s commitment to performance, cost-effectiveness, and environmental responsibility.
From its earliest days, CSP has emphasized quality and customer support. Daily laboratory testing, strict quality controls, and hands-on technical service ensure reliable performance. The company’s technical experts work directly with foundries to eliminate defects, reduce costs, and improve casting outcomes.
In 2024, CSP achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, underscoring a long-standing dedication to quality management and continuous improvement.
What began as a single plant in Sparrows Point has now grown into an international operation. Today, Chesapeake Specialty Products operates two facilities:
Baltimore, Maryland – The headquarters and original plant, where CSP continues to innovate and manufacture its core products.
South Korea – A production facility that strengthens CSP’s ability to serve customers across Asia and other international markets.
This dual presence enables CSP to deliver consistent, high-quality products and responsive service worldwide.
For more than three decades, Chesapeake Specialty Products has combined local heritage with global innovation. From a historic Bethlehem Steel building in Maryland to a growing footprint in South Korea, CSP has built a reputation for reliability, service, and sustainable solutions. As the company continues to expand, its commitment remains the same: delivering products that help customers succeed—while shaping a cleaner, more efficient industrial future.
