Chesapeake Specialty Products Earns U.S. Commercial Service Export Achievement Award

Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02) presented Chesapeake Specialty Products with the U.S. Commercial Service's Export Achievement Award, which recognizes American companies that enter or expand into overseas markets with the agency's support.

At the time, CSP was shipping its metallic abrasives, foundry sand additives and high-density iron products to 26 countries. Commercial Service trade specialists helped the company break into new markets, including Germany, Thailand, Vietnam and Turkey, where in-country staff helped CSP find the right distributor.

"We need to do everything we can to help U.S. businesses reach new markets, increase sales and create new jobs through exporting," Ruppersberger said. "With the help of the U.S. Commercial Service, the Second District's own Chesapeake Specialty Products is proof of the success that can come when companies go global, and I am proud to present the Export Achievement Award today."

"The U.S. Commercial Service representatives involved in this project were excellent," said Kenneth Sanchez, president of Chesapeake Specialty Products. "The in-country staff helped tremendously with locating a desirable distributor. Also, it was nice to know that I was being looked after during my stay in Istanbul. I will definitely continue to use the service in other areas of the world as I think it is very beneficial to U.S. companies."
